No additional adapters were needed. The cassette adapter or the cassette player started malfunctioning frequently. I have a first gen Delphi MyFi XM2GO, which I listened to in my 2003 Honda CR-V using the cassette adapter for sound and cigarette lighter for power. The sound quality is great and there is no interference from FM radio stations. I bought a new car stereo and the XM radio adapter. They were both professionally installed. All of the wires are hidden behind the dash, including the power supply. I wish I had done this years ago.
this is a snap to put in, you don't have to remove the radio if you can reach behind it to the antenna plug. It keeps a strong signal and eliminates fade in. the sound is greatly improved also. No more than it cost and the easy installation, if you have an XM radio, it's well worth it to install this piece of the system.
Let me preface this review by stating that I currently have the exact system I was attempting to set up in two other vehicles already and everything works perfectly. After testing and trying the second direct adapter, we have 2 other cars we were hoping to install this system in, we found that neither product worked and rather acted as if it wasn't there AND cut out the xm signal that was there initially. Before installation the XM player would loose signal strength when the main radio channel was strong and then you had to spend time finding another station that was currently not used by an actual radio station, hence the purchase of this, which let me state again works perfectly in two other vehicles, however both were installed well over 3 years ago. After hard wiring the entire system, the installation was completed by a very trusted mechanic, we discovered that the device didn't work AT ALL, and wouldn't by-pass the radio channel as it was supposed to. Needless to say we packaged them both back up and returned them. Mind you, for other reasons unrelated to the XM we had one of the original cars apart and were able to positively identify that they should have been the EXACT same, but clearly wasn't.My advice would be to purchase the item from somewhere else, we are ordering it from radioshack and hoping to have better luck, as the ones from Amazon are pure crap.
After the installation, they were right, I didn't get my AM stations, but that was with the XMP3i hooked into the craddle. I needed this extra boost, so to speak. I have a 2005 Volvo and I have fiber optic wires or some sort and I couldn't hook the XM portable radio (XMP3i) up with the car kit. When the XMP3i is not in the craddle, you WILL get the AM stations. And it works so well. I was told that I wouldn't get AM stations. I'm very happy with the product. It saved me from having to return my XMP3i.
This adapter works by providing a box that your car antenna and the XM radio plugs into with a lead that goes to your radio where the orignal antenna plugs in.Because my car has a retractable powered antenna i was not able to use the cheesy connector that came with the radio. With this product you get NO outside FM interference becasue the box the antenna plugs into works as an A/B switch and shuts down input from the antenna. It's like tuning to channel 3 to get cable on your TV same concept.I used to install mobile electronics so this installation wasnt a problem but you might need assistance if you have no experience with taking your radio out or cannot reach the back of the radio.
